Report Finds Undocumented Students Face Roadblocks

Link this article on your blog, summarize it, and post a response. What should be done for undocumented college students, who do not have social security numbers, but want to attend institutions of higher education?

  1. Call it harsh, but undocumented students, in my opinion, should not be granted financial aid, or even admittance into colleges. Why should we reward people who partake in illegal activities, who already have lifestyles better than some other Americans, by allowing them in-state tuition rates when they don't even have an official address? The definition of in-state meaning that their official address is within the state. Their official address isn't even in this country, if they have an official address at all! I understand the need for colleges to make more money, but the United States is losing millions of dollars every year thanks to these "undocumented citizens" dodging taxes, getting paid off the books because they can't show legal employment, collecting welfare, and taking jobs away from the now insanely high number of unemployed individuals. I don't approve of undocumented citizens, and feel that in order to do just about anything in this country, school especially, you should at least make the government aware of the fact that you're here.

  2. I dont agree that the government should give financial aid to these undocumented students. They are being rewarded for illegal behavior? That will definitely lead to more chaos of all people outside the U.S. thinking they can do the same. I , as an American have to go through the system of giving the right documents to obtain financial aid or get a passport to leave the country, why should they get special treatment? I too have been in a school abroad, there's a lot of crap I had to go through to live there, because the government required it of me. I know that everyone wants the American Dream, and foreign people flee here for freedom but why does America have to be a country that always says "YES"? Can't we sometimes use the freedom to say no?

  3. Undocumented students should have the opportunity to go to college because it would be better for the community and the children. Since 15% of children are undocumented in the United States if not given the option for college that is 15% of people who are likely to commit crimes. I don't feel children should pay for there parents mistakes. These are people who want to be here for that American Dream otherwise they would not go to that much effort to come here illegally. They are willing to work hard and further themselves. Politians should look at this as bettering the community/ contry.

  4. As an in-state financial aid recipient it would seem fair to say that undocumented students shouldn't be granted financial aid. Oddly enough I believe financial aid is to do just that; provide financial aid to those who need it. I agree that if a student has been a U.S. student for years and done the work required of them to graduate; why can't they receive aid if they need it? I believe allotting them a chance to succeed can in turn help our country to succeed.

  5. In my opinion students who are undocumented shouldn't be able to get financial aid especially when they are illegal in the first place. When you enter a country their are rules to abide that must be followed. Who are they to say that they are any different from the Americans that are already here. When it comes to requirements of a country, I feel as though it's a way to protect the people that already reside here from any dangers of other foreigners. Becoming a non immigrant is a process and that's just it. It's like anything that you go to do in life have requirements, whether it's more training or schooling involved. We all at some point have to buckle down and play by the government rules.

  6. why should an undocumented student be able to go to college? I think an undocumented student should no be able to receive financial aid because why would the say yes to every person who isn't a US citizen and give them everything they want. but if i would go into an financial aid office. i would have to fill out the paper work. how do i know if i will be able to receive this aid for me to go to college. i figure if they want to go to college they should become an citizen and do everything like everyone else who is here legally.
